Chapter 2: God in the Twenty-First Century
There has been no verified evidence that anyone has seen God, yet the concept of a Higher Power has intrigued homosapiens for thousands of years. Since God is transcendent and has never been visualized, it follows that for any descriptions of the nature and actions of God, we must entirely resort to the use of symbols and images to communicate with each other. Symbols represent the visible and invisible. Consequently, it should be obvious to all persons that symbolic language which is an expression of faith is by definition limited in conveying complete truth regarding spiritual or religious dimensions.
It is possible to believe in God and not comprehend societal dynamics on racial, social, political, economic, health and scientific issues. Belief in God does not trigger automatic receipt of truth about life. Truth is truth regardless of its source and sentiments, for all truth is God’s truth, because God is truth. Reality consists of the objective combination of various truths.
Reality is that a molecule of water is formed when two atoms of hydrogen combine with one atom of oxygen under specific conditions. Reality is that the electrostatic attraction between the water molecules results in the formation of hydrogen bonds between the water molecules. Reality is that ignoring air resistance, an individual in falling from a building accelerates at a speed of 9.8 m/s2, regardless of that individual’s mental or spiritual state. Reality is that an individual experiences anxiety when the amygdala in the temporal lobe of the brain has been activated. This is reality whether the individual is an atheist, agnostic, or theist. An individual’s belief or non-belief in God has no effect on the laws of nature or the truth.
Chapter 8 – Who is an American?
To be an American means more than being born or immigrating to the U.S.A. It entails having the rights, respect, and roles of citizenship or residency. To be blessed as an American, means to have each person experience compassion, legal and social justice as the usual, customary and respectable way of life… As we shall soon discover being born in America does not guarantee the rights, respect and roles of citizenship or residency. To be born in America does not guarantee an individual the receipt of social and legal justice. This lack of a guarantee is lamentable, when we recognize that this nation proclaims itself majority Christian.
